Last night was the first time since the split of Minnesota Church of the Wicca and the Wiccan Church of Minnesota in 1987 that the two groups planned and held a joint Ritual together.

It was truly a momentous occasion.

I am the bearer of bad news my friends, I learned today that Loui Pieper, one of the former owners of Evenstar Bookstore and long time twin cities pagan community member, crossed over. From what I have been told, I believe she passed away today, but I am not 100% certain of that. We do not have many details at this time. We do know that CJ was with her and that it was a sudden asthma attack that led to her crossing over.

Please light a candle or remember her in some way. She was one of the pioneers in the openly pagan business world.

At their business meeting tonight, the Executive Board and all members present of the Earth House Project of Minnesota unanimously voted to give 25% of the profits from their Midsummer Gather to the newly opened Sacred Paths Center in St. Paul.

So if you go to the EHP Midsummer Gather, you not only get a great week long pagan festival, but you also help a new pagan resource!

So lately I have been going to various gatherings of pagans. A lot of the conversation among some is trying to bring the pagan community together. I am all for it. I have seen some successes on a small scale and a slightly larger scale. Sadly small is rarely agreeing with larger or vice versa.

Now here is something that has annoyed me for the last couple of months when everyone is saying yes we need to bring the community together.

"well "THEY" just took that over breaking tradition started by someone else"(who by the way doesn't show up anymore-probably valid reasons but that is not what we are discussing. "they are not thinking of anyone but their bigger group."

Here's what I want to say to that little charge. Really haven't seen you at the public gathering, meeting with others. I've recently rejoined and except at the "yule" gathering was the most I had seen there in 6 months. So the place changed, now this was a good thing in my mind as the first place was a popular hangout especially on this day. We wouldn't have been able to find enough seats together and you want to talk? how can you when there was nowhere quiet to do such? So the place changed and what did I see. a Crowd. we're talking going from 5-8 up to ~35-45. Ok was that a fluke. fast forward to the next time. Oh my even more new faces and the place was much easier to sit and talk.

    Next thing:

"Well we're not like "such and such" we do it this way, and that way." with a condescending tone.

Really glad you don't do it that way. does that make one better then the other? Umm no. it's no different in how we each follow our path. Is that path the same in every aspect as someone elses? No it is not but yet we can gather and agree or have a friendly discussion on why you feel such. Really people there is not just one way to do this or that. I have seen different ways people call a circle and other people who don't do such. One better then the other. I would say not. We all do what works for us. I am glad you are offering something different then that group because maybe there is people who prefer smaller groups or the way you do it. But no matter what we're talking about humans. Humans with free will. Guess what not everyone is going to agree to everything every time.

So should we shun those who do not agree with what we think or feel? If you feel so then guess what I don't want to be a part of your community. That is the reason some of us have not followed the main line religions. Because we are different.

I was told as a child I was going to hell because I was born illegitimate. Lets ignore the fact as a child my mother let me explore religions with others. If a neighbor asked if I wanted to go to church with them I was allowed to if it was my wish. It was an experience. but nothing felt right.

ok it's almost 2 am so I got curious after my little rant. what is the accepted definition of community.
    from merriam-webster online:

1: a unified body of individuals: ok unified. another toughy. Pagan-hmm unified in our beliefs we follow a path different then most mainstream religion though I have known many who do both pagan and (enter main stream religion)
b: the people with common interests living in a particular area ; broadly : the area itself c: an interacting population of various kinds of individuals (as species) in a common location ok good place to start, start small then try to stretch out farther. NOw the nice thing about this is it's easier to effect and help and participate when the area is near and you can see it happen. Yet I also know that some groups-for lack of a better word-can hold onto those who have moved away from a particular area. Yes they can't directly physically or whatever the community but they still take part-at least I hope- the internet opens up discussions with people half a world away. Just because you move away do you not love your family anymore-even if they are annoying they are family.
d: a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society oddly enough heard a lot of talk in the past few months about people wanting to do such. now will this make an instant community. will everyone instantly agree to everything-yeah right. So if we can't do it in close quarters why do we expect it in a bigger area?

hmm not sure that makes sense will reread this later.

but here is part of my point. Stop shutting down others and try to work together or just accept ok they do this different that's nice, but you know what I will still tell others about their way as it might fit for someone. And I hope the others would do the same. And if it's about one person Please be the bigger person and just be polite to them and seek others who might be more along your line. If you shut out a whole group because of one or two people that is not fair to the other even 15 who may benefit from your aquantance or maybe you benefit from them. Petty nit picking and generalizations break up this "community" we're trying to find.

And yes I do have concerns with big groups of people and such wanting me to follow their way or such and such. Yet oddly I have been eased a little. when I a relative new comer brought up. yes that's true for your path but you know what we're trying to draw everyone in-lets get a little more universal. now am I saying oh we have to have a sign for every pagan religion out there? NO but don't center on the thing popular with one path because well there's more of them in an area.
I recognize the pentagram that many pagans wear. NOw ask me do I have one? nope. but if I see it I go oh here we go. And no the pentagram isn't just wiccan which is something someone told me once. oh they have a pentagram they are therefore a witch. But it's a huge misconception and you can lose some because of it.

And instead of trying to stir up conversation with the generalization "so what level are you" (and yes have dealt with that alot in the past, i got pushed back in a group because they all did levels and I had none.) but ask what path do you follow or what are some of your beliefs and listen. not listening and shutting people out is a way to keep the community from happening. because who wants to go somewhere where the talk is all about one path only.

and another thing don't like how the community is building, then either try to...oh my get involved or shut up. TOo many sit back and complain about what others are trying to accomplish yet they come up with no solutions. Hmm sound familiar to recent politics in the US? If you don't like it, then help fix what you see is wrong.

Ephemeral Mists is the newest side project by composer Brett Branning (The synthetic dream foundation & Abandoned Toys). The debut album, "Moon Ritual" is out now on Mythical records.

The sound of the project is best described as downtempo ambient electronics mixed with ethnic world musics in the vein of "Karma" era Delerium, Amethystium, and Dead Can Dance. Its an incredibly powerful cd to use as yoga music and Reiki music. A beautiful creation and I highly recommend it to anyone into newage styles of music.

Evenstar Bookstore, a metaphysical bookstore, is closing its doors at the end of January.

They are just off of University Ave and Raymond.

No word yet if there are any super closeout deals, but stop by. You never know.

    All Fae Dae
(September 24th, "to be celebrated the Sunday before,
which is September 21st this year)

"Isn't it about time for the magical to have an "over the top" holiday, one of good intent? We, the Indigo, Shaman, Fae, Pagan, Spiritually inspired artist, need A Calendar Hallmark Moment each and every year, one worthy of handmade greeting cards and not the cheesy store bought kind, for our special people. This holiday must never go commercial.

We must aspire to do for others on this day, through the works of our own hands, words of love, wisdom and encouragement, moments of great affection (Just ask before you grab.)."

These are some of the suggestions of The Faery King in addition to these.

(And yes, the 24th of September is his birthday.)

It is also the time of Harvest, of Mabon. Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, Autumnal Equinox. Call it what you like but make this a great day, one of amnesty for transgressions through the atonement of making people feel better about themselves, creating together. Just create it, call it and make it happen.)

Let the festivities begin around noon and continue through the night. (Until it's called.)

(You might want to plan to go to work late on Monday, if at all. Sunday is everyone's day, by the way. That is why it is to be celebrated on Sunday.)

    Healing through art.

Little prayer boats of flowers, candles, lanterns and floating sage and incense for water.

Glow sticks, works of art and little lights floating too.

(Lakes, swimming pool, bath tubs are big cauldrons, no?
    An elemental altar.

    Sand castles and paintings.

An altar of cream, sweet cakes and sparkles for the Fae.

    Chalk mandala in peet moss.

Altars of good intent constructed by guests.

    Planned and spontaneous performance.

    Drum, dance and other instruments.

An alchemic feast, where food is prepared by the community together, with a drum or three.

    Barbecue.

    Boas.

    Flower petals.

    Build with blocks together.

    Erector sets.

    Make an instrument.

Play cards, it is Sunday for Goddess sake.

Mead and Ale for those who do and nectar for those who don't drink.

    Toast Queen Mab.

    Toast the Goddess,
The ancestors and the elders, as well.

Public expressions of gratitude to others,
Mad hugging of people and trees,
(Say Hi to Thor if it's an Oak)

As a tribute to Pan, take bits of food and chalices of beverage; feed and beverage your friends from your own hand. Do not let them lift a finger for awhile, until they are satisfied
Keep a never ending story book, where each guest contributes one word to the book that tells our story, a chain of wish beads, contributed one by one for your community.

    Sacred geometry.

Shakers and rattles to go with the beats.

    Prayer flags.

    Singing bowls.

    Sand painting.

    Water sharing.

Touching the elements with song and poems,
    Draw, paint, sew, create, design.

    Touch the Divine!
All magical instruments, (HANG it, if you got it!)
    Plenty of sage and incense.

    Masks and finery.

(sky clad and body paint where you can)
    A bardic effort.

    Incantation and chant.

The host must bless the crowd at midnight.

A huge OM at dusk. "Good bye the Sun, thank you for making our day."
Keep your dreams and imagination on this, adding or subtracting to the list.

    Make it your day!

The inspiration for the Faery King's proclamation of this holiday comes from many places, but the better part of it came from Sacred Soulfire, an amazing magical experience, July 4th weekend 2008, through the efforts of Shaman mz imani and the magick that she brings to the world, as she helps others to co-create, build community, as we help ourselves and others bring peace to the world in our lifetime. Sacred Soulfire is the place of great change!

This year the Phaerex is in a state of celebration for 48 years of a very magical life of ups, downs and lessons, sometimes given at the hands of The Fae, a life in which he envies noone, living or dead. It is gonna be a big party, hopefully in many places.

The house will be a rockin, as the wizardly are working it and talking!
